I would like to personally welcome you to our
website.
I hope you enjoy your visit as you browse through the gallery of
photos displaying my handcrafted furniture. I look forward to building an heirloom piece for
you! Photo courtesy of the Country Messenger Newspaper.
Correct Windsor chairs and accessories are
truly reminiscent of colonial America. Eighteenth century
chairmakers created chairs of the utmost grace and design. In
1917, Wallace Nutting sought to replicate these exquisite chairs.
I create my chairs much in the same manner.
The Windsor chair is of simple design while
expressing the utmost of graceful form. Prior to the Industrial
Revolution, one could find a Windsor chairmaker in most large
eastern towns and in fact, as far west as the Mississippi River.
Today, antique Windsors are rare, highly prized and expensive, my
chairs are reproductions offered as an alternative. I am a collector of antique Windsors, as well as a member of the Society of American Period
Furniture Makers.
My Windsor furniture is built using the skills
developed by the 18th century craftsman, constructed entirely by
hand with tools long ago forgotten. Ours is a family shop, I can
be found at the lathe or the assembly bench, while my wife is
working in the finishing area. The most common finish is a black
milk paint over a red undercoat, exhibiting a worn but not abused
look, followed by a hand rubbed oil finish.
There is no finer chair, than a hand-turned,
bench-made Windsor chair built by the same traditional methods and
tools used by our forefathers. For your protection, each piece of
Windsor furniture leaving my shop is branded with my name and
dated with four numerals of the year built. A paper label of
authenticity is also attached.
